چکیده

Abstract A 2-year experiment was conducted at the USDA-ARS Southern Plains Experimental Range (SPER) near Fort Supply, OK to define effects of supplementing steers grazing native range with extruded 100% dried distillers' grains (DDGS) cubes. Each year 126 (259 ± 43 kg) grazed from late May September allocated 3 treatments: 1) negative control (NC) stocked 2.4 ha/steer ad libitum mineral only, 2) positive (PC), supplemented 1.8 kg/steer on alternate days during summer ha/steer, and 3) high supplement (HS) fed 0.75% BW supplemental DDGS cubes all season 1.6 ha/steer. Data were analyzed across years using PROC MIXED in SAS as a complete block design random pasture within treatment by error term. Early ADG gains for HS 0.30 0.031 kg 20 2.1 greater (P < 0.01) than NC PC, respectively. However, PC 0.34 0.08 0.36 NC. Late did not differ ≥ 0.76) but 22.3 5.3 23.9 5.4 NC, Hence, overall ADG, total gain, gain/ha 0.32 0.04, 0.14 0.04; 42 5.4, 18 5.4; 53 2.2, 2.2 Supplementing is an effective management option increase stocking rates without negatively impacting individual animal performance, increasing gain/hectare.

Dried Distillers Grains Supplementation of Calves Grazing Corn Residue

One hundred and twenty steers (512  37 lb) were stratified by weight and assigned randomly to incremental levels of DDGS treatments. Steers were limit fed a 47.5% alfalfa, 47.5% WCGF 5% supplement diet for five days at the beginning and end of the trial and weighed for three consecutive days to minimize variation due to gut fill. Treatments included 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, and 6.5 lb DDGS/ he...

CASE STUDY: Dried Distillers Grains as Creep Feed for Yearling Beef Cattle Grazing Sandhill Range

Seventy-nine crossbred steers and heifers born in June or August were stratified by weight, calving group, and sex and assigned to treatment or control. Yearlings in the treatment group (TRT; n = 40) grazed native summer Sandhill range and had access to ad libitum dried distillers grains (DDG) pellet in a creep feeder for 54 d of a 63-d grazing period. Control (CON; n = 39) yearlings grazed in ...

Economic Favorability of Feeding Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles and Round-Bale Silage to Stocker Cattle

It is common for stocker operators to buy calves in the spring and sell them as feeder cattle in the fall. Economic favorability of various stocker systems based on animal response is largely untested. A systems grazing study was conducted to compare net returns of 2 different forage management practices with a control. A spring group and a fall group of steers were stocked in each of 3 treatme...

Effects of Cultivar and Distillers Grains Supplementation on Grazing and Subsequent Finishing Performance of Stocker Steers Grazing Tall Fescue Pasture

Four hundred thirty-two yearling steers grazing tall fescue pastures were used to evaluate the effects of fescue cultivar and dried distillers grains (DDG) supplementation during the grazing phase on available forage, grazing gains, subsequent finishing gains, and carcass characteristics. Fescue cultivars evaluated were highendophyte ‘Kentucky 31’ and low-endophyte ‘Kentucky 31,’ ‘HM4,’ and ‘Ma...

Extruded aquafeeds containing distillers dried grains with solubles: effects on extrudate properties and processing behaviour.

BACKGROUND The tremendous supply and low cost of distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) make it an attractive feedstuff for aquaculture diets. Also, several studies have shown that DDGS can be successfully fed to various finfish. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of inclusion rate of DDGS (0, 250, 500 g kg(-1) ), feed moisture content (350, 450 g kg(-1) ) and die ope...
